The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society operates two separate facilities:
the Museum on site at the historic fort,
and the Santa Clara -
Fort Bayard Historic Visitors Center, located in the former National Guard Armory,
at 11990 US Hwy 180,
6 miles east of Silver City, on the north side of the highway.
We are in need of additional tour guides, museum hosts, and cataloguing assistants as we move into the warm season, beginning on April 1st. Schedules are flexible, and no matter your areas of interest and ability, we can train you for our needs.

Fort Bayard History Tours to Resume
Local News Releases 23 March 2021
The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society is pleased to announce that guided tours at Fort Bayard National Historic Landmark will resume on Saturday, April 3, and will continue each Saturday through October, provided no further mandated lockdowns are imposed by governmental authorities. Tours are led by Society members knowledgeable not only in the history of the fort and hospital, but in the broader history of the Southwest.
Society guides will be available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Guests are requested to meet in front of the Commanding Doctor’s Home and Museum, along the west side of the Parade Ground. Masks are required for visitors, and Covid distancing and health protocols will be followed. Tours will include a walk around the Parade Ground and adjoining areas. Due to ongoing repairs, access to the Museum building is uncertain, but if feasible, guests will be allowed inside the structure within Covid occupancy limits. For further information, or to book a large group tour, interested parties may contact Doug Dinwiddie at 575-388-4862, Cecilia Bell at 575-388-4477, or Becky Dinwiddie at 970-222-5084.
